Advance voting is only one of the many ways electors can cast their ballot in the 2018 Municipal and School Board elections. Electors can also vote by proxy and on voting day.

Voting by Proxy

Any elector is eligible to appoint another eligible voter to cast a ballot on their behalf. To do so, the elector must complete an Appointment for Voting Proxy form. The forms are available at City Clerks Services, located on the fifth floor of Oshawa City Hall (50 Centre St. S.). Specific rules apply to the appointment of voting proxies. Are you on the Voters’ List?

The Voters’ List is the list of eligible voters for the upcoming election. Every Ontario municipality is required to use the Voters’ List prepared by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (M.P.A.C.). An elector can check to see if they are on the list by visiting the City’s Voter Look Up webpage. Oshawa residents who:

  • recently moved to the city;
  • moved within Oshawa;
  • recently turned 18 years old;
  • recently gained Canadian citizenship; or,
  • are tenants,

are encouraged to check to see if they are on the list.

Voter Notification Cards

The Voters’ List was used to generate the Voter Notification Cards, which were distributed to the community mid-September.

If an eligible elector did not receive a Voter Notification Card, they can:

  • add their name to the Voters’ List (until Sunday, October 14); and,
  • determine their Voting Location on the Voter Look Up webpage.

Electors who add their name to the Voters’ List will receive a confirmation email in the business days following their registration.

An eligible elector does not need to provide a Voter Notification Card at the time they cast their vote, however they are required to provide one (1) piece of identification containing their name and qualifying address or complete a Declaration of Identity affirming their identity and entitlement to vote at the Voting Location. A list of accepted forms and identification can be found on the City’s Voters webpage.

Incorrect Voter Notification Cards

Residents who received a Voter Notification Card for a person who no longer lives at their address or is deceased are encouraged to note this on the card and return it to the City by placing it back in the mail.
