Oshawa, Ont. – Durham College (DC) and Ample Organics (AO) are pleased to announce their signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to formalize their collaboration on post-secondary learning and corporate training opportunities related to the medical and recreational cannabis industry.
“Partnering with industry leaders like Ample Organics is key to Durham College’s approach to providing business professionals with the best possible start to launching a career in the cannabis industry,” said Don Lovisa, president, DC. “Who better to inform our approach to preparing students who meet the needs of employers than a company that is already working with 75 percent of Canada’s licensed producers (LPs), the exact employers we’re looking to serve.”
Under the agreement, AO will provide expertise to DC in connection with the development of new cannabis-related courses and programs, and to augment DC’s existing educational offerings, including the new Cannabis Industry Specialization certificate program and two-day Medical Cannabis Fundamentals for Business Professionals course. Particular areas of focus will include cannabis-related software, marketing, patient management and regulations.
The MOU will also see DC students gain exposure to AO’s leading seed-to-sale software and new opportunities for experiential learning in the field. AO is committed to the development of cannabis-related education at the post-secondary and professional levels and will assist DC in building relationships across the industry to help support course development. DC and AO will also explore opportunities to collaborate on applied research initiatives related to the medical and/or recreational cannabis industry. Under separate but related agreements, DC’s Corporate Training Services department will develop learning for AO specific to AO’s software solutions.
“The entire Ample Organics team are strong advocates for education in the cannabis industry,” said Tom Ritchie, director of training and education, AO. “We are thrilled to develop partnerships with forward-thinking, post-secondary institutions like Durham College. Our combined commitment to educating those seeking a career within this industry serves as a way of not only supporting our clients, but all employers in this field. We are honoured to be working with Durham College and look forward to playing a role in shaping the future of cannabis education.”
