Business Excellence Awards Highlights 50th Anniversary Of Boys & Girls Club

As promised and keeping the high quality and caliber of the event in mind, the Business Excellence Awards is shaping up to be the “party of the year to Celebrate Business.”

The event, with a revamped program and a change of venue is being held on Thursday, September 26th, kicking-off with a Pre-Award VIP Cocktail Reception at Fazio’s Restaurant beginning at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Red Carpet greeting and Awards Presentation at the Regent Theatre beginning at 6:15 p.m.

The biggest changes to the Awards event are: there is no formal dinner at the awards, there are multiple venues, and the cost to attend has been cut in half.

You’re all invited to attend the Official Post-Award Party Venues at Avanti’s, Buster Rhino’s, Fazio’s or Riley’s beginning at 8:00 p.m. and network with the Award honourees.  Each location is offering up specials for everyone presenting an Award Admission Ticket. For details see page 6.

“We’re encouraging everyone attending to participate in the Post-Award Celebrations,” stated Chamber President Dan Carter. “We’re excited about the changes and this will be one of the premier events upon the reopening of the Regent Theatre, since the completion of the interior renovations to restore its ceiling to its original 1950s grandeur.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Durham–Eastview Unit, will be presented with the President’s Award in recognition of the outstanding dedication and commitment of its staff and volunteers past and present. “It’s my pleasure on the occasion of their 50th Anniversary year to present them with the President’s Award,” commented Carter. The President’s Award is not given out every year and past recipients of this award have included Simcoe Hall Settlement House, the Ontario Regiment (RCAC) and the Hero’s of Hope Campaign.

This year is the 85th Anniversary of the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce and to celebrate the anniversary the Board of Directors agreed to gift 10% of tickets sales from the event to the Eastview Unit to assist in building a much needed elevator.

To add to the evening there are exciting prizes to be won. All attendees will be eligible to win a Blackberry Z10, 2 nights deluxe stay for 2 at Viamede Resorts in the Kawarthas, 2 VIA Rail Business Class tickets (Oshawa to Quebec City return) and one lucky attendee will walk away with a ten day trip to China visiting Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou in 2014. For details on the trip to China see page 5.

Each of the 2013 recipients of the prestigious Business Excellence Awards excel in all areas of business and display leadership within the community. The Chamber is proud of its business community and recognize the extraordinary success of the recipients for “Business Excellence”—Dr. Angela Fountain and Associates operating a 60-acre, fully-functioning farm serving clients with special mental health, developmental and/or socio-emotional needs and Rhythm Dynamix Dance & Performing Arts whose studio has grown from one instructor to 10 since opening its doors, and gives back to the community in many ways, donating to a long list of community organizations, including Hearth Place and Rose of Durham. “Civic Pride”—McCAM Insurance Brokers Ltd. marks its 100th anniversary in Oshawa this year. “Innovation”—GeoSight Inc. with its groundbreaking cavity monitoring system is earning rave reviews in the mining industry. “New Enterprise”—Working It! “The Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce is proud of its business community,” stated Bob Malcolmson, Chamber CEO & General Manager, “this isn’t your average, run-of-the-mill awards show—it’s going to be the party of the year and you don’t want to miss it!”
