CAMP X - THE ROBERT STUART

AERONAUTICAL MUSEUM

The top secret World War II “Secret Agent Training School,” strategically

placed in Canada on the shores of Lake Ontario, sprawling over the

town lines of Oshawa and Whitby. The exhibit is located at the Robert

Stuart Aeronautical Museum.

CANADIAN AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM

In 1961, a group of Oshawa businessman created the Canadian

Automotive Museum to preserve the automotive history of Canada.

Currently on display over 70 vehicles dating from 1898 to 1981.

OPEN: Year round except Christmas Day. Mon. – Fri. 9:00 a.m. to 5:00

p.m., Sat & Sun 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

ADMISSION: Adult - $5; Seniors (60 and over) - $4.50; Ages 12

DOWNTOWN OSHAWA MURALS

Take a walking tour of the murals, depicting the early days of the automotive

industry and its influence on the City of Oshawa. The newest mural depicts

the military history of the area including the famous spy school - Camp X.

Walking and step-on tours available in June, July and August.

OSHAWA MILITARY & INDUSTRIAL MUSEUM

The museum houses the largest collection of operational tanks and

military equipment in Canada. On display is the Ontario Regiment’s

(RCAC) long history of service and gallantry. Also on display is the Ontario

Regiments Ferret Clubs extensive collection of restored military vehicles

which includes a number of tanks, wheeled and tracked vehicles. Check

the website for “TANK DAYS” where history comes to life.

OSHAWA COMMUNITY MUSEUM & ARCHIVES

Located in Oshawa’s beautiful Lakeview Park the museum depicts

local history through the interpretation of three restored historic homes,

providing a greater understanding of the lifestyles of Oshawa’s early

inhabitants. Henry House portrays the lifestyle of the minister’s family

from 1850 through 1890’s and gives insight into Thomas Henry, an

activist in the development of early Port Oshawa. Gift Shop, archives,

group tours, changing displays and children’s programs are offered

year round.

OSHAWA SPORTS HALL OF FAME

Located inside the General Motors Centre, the Museum displays

an impressive collection of artifacts, photographs and memorabilia

depicting Oshawa’s sports scene and honours the achievements of

Oshawa individuals and teams who have attained prominence and

distinction in sports.

PARKWOOD, R.S. MCLAUGHLIN ESTATE

Historical home of R.S. McLaughlin, a pioneer in the automotive

industry and founder of General Motors of Canada, it is now a National

Historic Site. Parkwood Estate includes a 55 room mansion filled with

original furnishings and artwork, and a 12 acre landscaped garden with

walking paths, greenhouse and gazebo. Parkwood is a rare surviving

example of a grand estate of the “inter-war” years. Featuring guided

tours, heritage gardens, special programs, Summer Garden Teahouse

Restaurant, Greenhouse Tearoom and much more.

ROBERT McLAUGHLIN GALLERY

This remarkable Arthur Erickson designed building features a 100-footlong

skylight that extends the full length of the lobby at a height of 35 feet.

The permanent collection includes significant Modern and Contemporary

Canadian masterpieces by Painters Eleven, Group of Seven, Emily Carr

and more. The RMG hosts a changing exhibition schedule of historical

and contemporary art. Of special local interest are photographs from the

Thomas Bouckley Collection. Art Classes, Workshops, Lectures, Library,

Family Activities, Gift Shop and Restaurant.

OPEN: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

WAR MEMORIAL

Near the junction of John and Simcoe St.'s., is a monument dedicated to Canadians who served in World War I. It was built using stones from the battle fields where Canadians served and from the countries of all the World War I Allies.
