The Chamber Committees

The Chamber has a wide variety of standing committees, task forces and event organizing committees where you can have fun, make business contacts and make a contribution to the community.

Our committee structure gives you a unique opportunity to network and to have your say in how your Chamber works for you. What a great way to benefit your business and your Chamber with a commitment of less than two hours a month.


The President appoints all committee members subject to confirmation by the Board. All committee appointments are are based on areas of expertise required and interest of the applicant. Apply today for the committee of your choice and start profiling your business the "Chamber way".

Policy Committees

The Policy Committees of the GOCC have been recently revised into four distinct areas and consist of two standing committees and 2 taskforce (Municipal Affairs Committee; Federal Provincial Affairs; Transportation Taskforce and
Environment & Energy Taskforce).


The Policy Committees monitor and interpret government legislation that will impact business and make recommendations for action to the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. The committees and taskforces work with various levels of government and with the Economic Development Departments of the Greater Oshawa area to ensure there is a climate for growth of existing businesses as well as new business.


The committees and taskforces will take a pro-active approach on issues and be a strong voice for responsible taxation by building and maintaining support for the control and accountability of taxation and expenditures affecting business.

The committees involved in this process are:

Federal & Provincial Affairs Committee - is mandated to develop policy on issues of importance to Chamber members within the purview of the Federal and Provincial governments. This includes, but is not limited to, federal and provincial budget issues and regulatory matters.

This Committee is also tasked with connecting volunteers and members to key issues and decision-makers on vital issues such as:

  • economy,           taxation,       labour,           social reform
  • education           energy         immigration    infrastructure
  • transportation    healthcare


The committee monitors government initiatives of interest to Chamber members, surveys and informs members of the impact of such initiatives, and formulates responses to the government on behalf of our business community. Any Chamber member with an interest in the federal and provincial government belongs on this committee. Interested members are encouraged to attend meetings. Existing committee members belong to a variety of industry sectors including manufacturing, technology, financial, institutional, service, and professional.

Municipal Affairs & Economic Development Committee - is mandated to develop Chamber policy on a broad range of matters relating to the City of Oshawa, Municipality of Clarington and the Region of Durham including budgets, operational and organizational effectiveness, fiscal policy and growth strategies and enlighten members on the impact economic policies have on the fiscal health of local business. The committee will develop policy positions to improve and create positive environments for the Chamber, its members and the community including but not limited to:
  • Development Charges    Elimination of duplication & red tape
  • Economic                      Development Employment Lands
  • Environment                  Recycling
  • Taxation                       Community safety and downtown


Any Chamber member who operates a business or who has an interest in the economic landscape of the Greater Oshawa area going forward belongs on this committee. Interested members are encouraged to attend meetings. Existing committee members belong to a variety of industry sectors including manufacturing, technology, financial, institutional, service, and professional services.

Transportation Taskforce - is mandated to develop policy of importance to Chamber members on transportation issues in Oshawa, Durham Region, Ontario and Canada. Items related to infrastructure investments, airports, highways, ports, railways and border crossings are priorities for this committee.

Environment & Energy Taskforce - Promotes awareness of environmental and energy issues within the business community and the community at large through research and recommendations in matters of environment and energy related legislation at the municipal, provincial and national level.
The committee encourages ethical and environmentally responsible business decision-making amongst Chamber members with respect to the purchasing, manufacturing, recycling, and resource conservation.

Ambassador Committee

Ambassador Committee - addresses the networking needs of local and regional businesses. Participates in the activities of the Chamber – Business of the Month, Biz After 5, New Members Breakfast and other events. Welcomes new members to the Chamber and follows up with members who have not participated in Chamber activities in the past 6 to 8 months. This committee is ideal for a member wishing to meet new members and cultivate new business. Meets 1st Wednesday of the month from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. (January - December)

Program Committees

Awards Committee - is responsible for carrying out the interview and selection process for the Chamber’s Annual Business Excellence Awards. Meet 1st Thursday of the month from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. (January through June).

Events Committee - addresses the education and information needs of local and regional businesses. Assists in the co-ordination and development of such activities as; Business for Breakfast, Women In Business, Lunch & Learn and Marketplace. Meet 3rd Tuesday of the month from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. (September through June)

Golf Committee - is responsible for organizing the Chamber’s Annual Golf Tournament, which includes finding prizes for donation, hole sponsors, golf cart sponsors and silent auction prizes. Meet 2nd Thursday of the month January to June from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. (October through June)

The Challenge Sub-Committee - is responsible for organizing the Chamber’s "Corporate Challenge" which includes finding prizes for donation and sponsors. Date and time of Committee meetings to be determined. (September through March)


Curling FUNSpiel
Sub-Committee - is responsible for organizing the Chamber’s Curling "FUNspiel", which includes finding prizes for donation and sponsors. Date and time of Committee meetings to be determined. (September through December)
