URGENT - COMMENTS REQUESTED Oshawa Airport Advisory Committee Makes Report To Council October 1 PDF Print E-mail
The Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce in it’s presentation to Oshawa City Council on June 25, 2012 with respect to the Oshawa Airport Runway extension recommended that:

  • All stakeholders are provided with clear and concise facts.
  • The Chamber supports the continuation of the peer review, and the public process that was approved by council January 30th, 2012.
  • The City of Oshawa does the public meeting with a detailed survey
  • The City of Oshawa does the Peer Review and Gap Analysis (which I understand the private sector has come forward with an offer to pay for the study).

On Monday October 1, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. the Development Services Committee of the the City of Oshawa will discuss the attached report from the Oshawa Airport Advisory Committee. Good News Update For The City Of Oshawa PDF Print E-mail

Oshawa Mayor John Henry will release the summer installment of the City’s Good News Update Report on October 1 and the message is clear…Oshawa is a strong expanding City with plenty of construction activity and new developments across the city. Highlights of the report will include information on the construction of the first phase of the Hwy 407 East Extension, the upgrades to Oshawa's VIA Rail station, new bicycle shelters that are being installed at key transportation hubs throughout the city, new businesses opening its doors in Oshawa, updates on Oshawa’s academic centres including UOIT, Durham College, Queen’s University and Trent University and more. Greater Oshawa Chamber Calls For Director Nominations PDF Print E-mail
Director nominations may be filed at the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, 44 Richmond Street West, Oshawa, commencing from July 1, 2012 to October 29, 2012 between the hours of  9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Directors will be elected for a three-year term, beginning January 1, 2013 ending December 31, 2014.  All active members or member representatives in good standing are eligible to hold elected office. Election Day is Friday, November 16, 2012.

Revenue Minister Gail Shea Acts On Not-for-profits’ Concerns PDF Print E-mail

A word of thanks is in order for federal Revenue Minister Gail Shea who has acted to deal with a threat to the survival of many Canadian not-for-profit associations. The not-for-profit sector includes a wide variety of organisations that range from local sports facilities to national associations like the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The one thing they have in common is that they exist to serve their members, as opposed to making a commercial profit.

Nuclear Site Preparation License Issued For OPG Darlington Nuclear Power Plant Projec PDF Print E-mail
The Joint Review Panel (JRP) of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced its decision to issue a Nuclear Power Reactor Site Preparation License to Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG) for its new nuclear power plant project at the Darlington nuclear site for a period of 10 years. The license will be valid from August 17, 2012 to August 17, 2022.
