As a member of the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, you or an associate can promote your business by simply volunteering to sit on one of the Chamber’s committees. Our committee structure gives you a unique opportunity to network and to have your say in how your Chamber works for you. What a great way to benefit your business and your Chamber with a commitment of less than two hours a month. The President appoints all committee members subject to confirmation by the Board. All committee appointments are for 1 year and are based on areas of expertise required and interest of the applicant. AMBASSADOR (September to June)
Chair: Geoff Michie, RBC Dominion Securities Inc. - Geoff Michie
Addresses the networking needs of local and regional businesses. Participates in the activities of the Chamber – Business of the Month, Biz After 5, New Members Reception. Welcomes new members to the Chamber and follows up with members who have not participated in Chamber activities in the past 6 to 8 months. This committee is ideal for a member wishing to meet new members and cultivate new business. Meet 1st Tuesday of the month from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
AWARDS (February to June)
Chair: Denise Alford, Denise Alford - Life Success Consultant
Responsible for carrying out the interview and selection process for the Chamber’s Annual Business Excellence Awards. Meet 1st Thursday of the month from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.
EVENTS (September to June)
Chair: John Sturrup, JS2 Marketing & Communication
Co-Chair: Steve Henry, CIBC Taunton & Wilson Banking Centre
Addresses the education and information needs of local and regional businesses. Assists in the co-ordination and development of such activities as; Business for Breakfast, Women In Business, Lunch & Learn and Marketplace. Meet 3rd Tuesday of the month from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
GOLF (January to June)
Chair: Bob Rockbrune, Rockbrune Bros. Ltd.
Responsible for organizing the Chamber’s Annual Golf Tournament, which includes finding prizes for donation, hole sponsors, golf cart sponsors and silent auction prizes. Meet 2nd Thursday of the month January to June from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
GOVERNMENT POLICY COMMITTEE (September to June)
Chair: Harry Horricks, Oshawa Clinic
Please note, as of September 2009 the Government Affairs Economic Development Committee has been renamed Government Policy Committee. Monitors and interprets government legislation that will impact business and make recommendations for action to the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. The committee works with the Economic Development Departments of the Greater Oshawa area to ensure there is a climate for growth of existing businesses as well as new business. This committee ensures that the Chamber continues to be a strong "Voice of Business" on behalf of all members. Meet 2nd Wednesday of the month from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m.
THE CHALLENGE SUB-COMMITTEE (September to March)

NEW Responsible for organizing the Chamber’s "Corporate Challenge" which includes finding prizes for donation and sponsors. Date and time of Committee meetings to be determined.
FUNSPIEL SUB-COMMITTEE (September to December)

NEW Responsible for organizing the Chamber’s Curling "Funspiel", which includes finding prizes for donation and sponsors. Date and time of Committee meetings to be determined.
