Terri Hillis is the manager of Flewwelling Insurance Brokers Limited, Oshawa Branch Office. Terri started her insurance career with Flewwelling in 1986 and since then has attained her CAIB, Designated Brokers License, RIBO License, and Travel License and has managed the sales department. Flewwelling is a family owned and operated company long established in the GTA. They started out as Aubrey Flewwelling Insurance in 1964 and incorporated in Ontario under the present name in 1978. Flewwelling has steadily grown ever since. Over the past two generations they have helped more than 10,000 families and businesses rest secure in the knowledge that their personal and business assets are well protected. PEte’s Open Kitchen - February 2010
Pete’s Open Kitchen located at 20 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa has been open since January 2006. Peter is a third generation restaurant owner. The Original Pete’s opened in downtown Toronto by Peter’s grandfather in 1926 and Peter’s father Thomas ran the restaurant until 1991. Peter is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and has worked in many fine restaurants in Toronto, Ottawa, New York, The Napa Valley in California and Europe. The philosophy behind the new Pete’s Open Kitchen is to provide fresh, seasonal food prepared on the premises with care and at reasonable prices. The menu includes a number of unique breakfast and lunch items as well as some standard favourites. There are a number of daily features ranging from soups, salads and sandwiches to their signature quiches, hot meals and chicken pot pies. Ian Goodall is an Oshawa, Ontario based freelance photographer specializing in corporate assignments, location portraits, sports and weddings. Primarily a sports photographer since 1990, Ian has now trained his eye on location assignments shooting for corporate annual reports and business portraits. His unique interest in lighting has earned him the respect of many clients ranging from athletes to small business owners and CEO's. For the last 10 years, Ian has been volunteering his services for 3 weekends per year in December taking “Pet Pics with Santa”. Every penny of money raised goes directly to the Durham Region Humane Society. It is no wonder that Ian has been chosen as Business of the Month by the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce. WHite Home Hardware - October 2009
White Home Hardware located at 1300 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa has been operating since 1928. This business began as a feed and coal store back in 1928 by Gordon White. Gordon ran the store almost until he passed back in 1983. Gordon’s son Don attended GulephCollege after WW2 and then joined his father’s business. Don took over after his father passed and you can still find Don working a couple of days a week. Today, Gordon’s grandson Steve and his wife Deb are carrying on the White family business with pride. White Home Hardware is well known for their superb customer service. The White’s always go above and beyond. The friendly staff always makes you feel welcome when you walk through the doors. For 87 Years, Wilson & Lee Ltd. has been serving the Oshawa area with their musical expertise and knowledge. Brothers, Bill Wilson Jr. and David Wilson have been working in the family run business since they were in their teens. The store has been in its current location on Simcoe Street North since 1953. In 1922, David and Bill’s grandfather, William George Wilson and his sister-in-law Mary Lee opened the store and the rest is history. Customers are so impressed with the Wilson’s customer service, their honesty and integrity. The brother’s have no intention of selling the store and that certainly makes Oshawa and area residents happy. Centennial Retirement Residence, owned by Chartwell Senior Housing REIT, located at the south west corner of Hilcroft Street and Ritson Road in Oshawa employs 29 staff. Centennial Retirement Residence opened in 2002. This beautiful facility offers a hair salon, theatre, chapel, library, games room, activity room and several multi purpose lounges. Durham Martial Arts, located at 1188 Simcoe St., S., Oshawa, was established in June 2000. This family business is owned and operated by James and Christine Colosimo. Sensei Jim has been studying the Martial Arts for the last two decades. The last ten years have been dedicated to GoJu Ryu where he has attained the rank of Nidan (second degree). Christine Colosimo has been training for the last ten years and has received her first degree Black Belt (Shodan) on May 3, 2000. Two Men and a Truck - April 2009
In February 2007, Franchisee Steve de Boer opened Two Men and a Truck; Oshawa, located at 595 Wentworth St., E., Unit 55. Opening for business with two trucks, last year they made the decision to increase to four so as to keep up with customer demand. It is understandable why Two Men and a Truck won the J.D. Power award for the last two years ranked highest in customer satisfaction for full service moving companies. With a keen focus on exceeding customer’s expectations, Steve’s team is clearly supportive of the community. They’ve donated defibrillators through The Mikey Network, sponsored kids sports teams, helped with the local Habitat for Humanity and had a successful “Stuff a Truck” event in support of Simcoe Hall Settlement House last Christmas. Steve and his team would be more than happy to assist you in your move, big or small.
