100 UOIT banners installed in the downtown core just in time for university’s convocation. “The newly installed banners are a great way to celebrate the university’s contribution to the redevelopment of downtown For a number of years, the City’s Community Services Department and the DOBIA have partnered on streetscape beautification in the downtown core, which has included banners, winter lights and floral displays. For this particular project, UOIT designed the banners and shared production costs with the City. The DOBIA provided space on 100 banner poles, with the City repositioning the 100 DOBIA banners in other areas of the downtown. “Business and property owners in the downtown are rolling out the welcome mat because UOIT students and faculty will bring an energy and vitality to the downtown that has not been experienced since the 1960's,” says Councillor Louise Parkes, Chair of the Development Services Committee. “The restoration of the Regent, Genosha and UOIT has a comprehensive plan to establish a downtown The university has signed a long-term lease for a new 30,000-square-foot, five-storey building at 55 Bond Street East, which is being built immediately to the north of the historic Regent Theatre, which will soon serve as a large lecture hall and community event space.
