The US Office of Management and Budget has just released the regulations pertaining to the Buy American deal that was reached in February. It is important that Canadian companies who are selling into U.S. markets impacted by the Buy American restrictions understand these rules and share them with their customers. Documentation is available which outlines how the regulations are to be applied and may be useful for Canadian firms who find procurement officers that lack an understanding of the new exceptions for Canadian goods. |

Ontario will raisethe minimum wage to $10.25 on March 31, 2010. This will be the seventh ncrease since 2004. The province of Ontario started implementing annual increases early in 2003, raising the general minimum wage from $6.85 in 2004 to $9.50 in 2009. The Chamber Launches Translation Service |
The Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce has launched a translation service which enables website visitors to view its website in over 50 languages..The Chamber is using Google Translate, an automatic translator, which provides translation assistance to users who do not speak English as a first language The Chamber acknowledges that the system does have its limitations. While it can help the reader to understand the general content of a foreign language text, it does not always deliver complete translations. To use the translation service, simply click on the Google Translate logo to the right, which will take you to the Google Translate service. You can then select any language from a drop down menu at the top of the page. This initiative supports the Chamber’s goal of continuing to be a responsive and caring business partner by enhancing customer service and responding to the needs of the community. As the Region of Durham continues to grow and becomes more diverse, language translation can help to keep the business community connected with their customers. |
